Most Influential CMOs list unveiled at IMA 2014

The exchange4media group on Friday released the list of India’s most influential CMOs at the Indian Marketing Awards 2014. Sashi Shankar of Idea tops the list, followed by SN Bhattacharya of LIC and Kartik Jain of HDFC Bank.
The list was inaugurated by the Chief Guest at the event, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Benoy Roychowdhury, Executive Director, HT Media.

The list of skills required for the marketing leaders of today have evolved over time. Traditionally, a proper blend of analytical and creative skills were required for CMOs. Now CMOs are expected to market an organization's products and services, but it begins with marketing of the organization itself. Companies are devising ways to demonstrate quantitatively the impact of their marketing spends.

In the pursuit to find out the best CMOs, exchange4media partnered with Traverse Research n’ Consulting to look at the strength of a brand in the industry as well as the influence of a CMO.

Only consumer brands were considered for the purpose of this research and the eligibility criteria was that the CMO should have been with the company in the CMO position for more than a year.

The goal was to identify those key characteristics of the inter-linkage leading to that winning combination of the brand and the CMO.

Methodology and Process
The list is based on data collated over the last 12 months broadly covering influence of CMO and strength of brand in the industry. These parameters are further divided in 10 sub categories:

Mention in Media
Credibility of Outlet
Influence in industry
Involvement in other projects/ campaigns
Integration between traditional and new media
Success in digital media
Building new competencies
