It was a global debut for the all-new sedan from the Ford Motor Company on Tuesday. And Ford Chairman and CEO Bill Ford was personally present to do the honours and unveil the Ford Fiesta, developed specifically for the Indian market by Ford’s global engineering team.
Speaking at the launch of the Fiesta, Ford said, “As we accelerate our efforts to meet the global challenges of our business, I have emphasised the importance of optimising our global footprint by investing in areas that are growing. India is right at the top of that list. The Indian market is critical to our plans for building a Ford Motor Company for the 21st century.”
The Fiesta would be positioned as a premium car in the mid-size segment, complementing the Ikon, which is targeted at the lower end of the mid-size segment. According to sources, the Fiesta would be priced between Rs 6.25 lakh and Rs 7.50 lakh. The company will announce the pricing after two weeks.
Ford added that the Fiesta was the fifth new product launched by the company in India in the last six years since 1999. “We have a robust product portfolio tailored to meet the requirements of this market,” he commented.
Observed Ford India MD and President, Arvind Mathew, “This launch will rapidly accelerate our growth in the Indian market. With the Fiesta, we have a car with contemporary styling, superior driving dynamics, enhanced interior comfort and class-leading fuel economy.”
The four-door Fiesta will be introduced in two available powertrains – the Duratec petrol 1.6 litre and the Duratorq 1.4 litre TDCi diesel, which marks the entry of turbo direct common rail injection technology in India.
The Duratec petrol engine would be outsourced from Hindustan Motors. The Duratorq diesel, an aluminum alloy construction, promises to be lighter than conventional engines. The diesel engine would be imported from Ford's global facilities. The Duratec and Duratorq engines are designed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce noise.
Fiesta will be available for test-driving by mid-November at the company’s dealership facilities in 79 cities. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
