WinCable allows telecast of Zee TV

Zee TV will be making a comeback on WinCable network soon. An understanding to this effect is being ironed out by the arch-rivals Star and Zee and will be in place before Zee goes pay on June 11. Earlier when Zee TV was free to air, several pay channels from Zee bouquet were not aired by Cable operators affiliated to WinCable.

Only Zee TV and Zee News were available to the viewers of WinCable. Since Star TV went pay, several of the less popular pay channels from the Star bouquet have reappeared on SitiCable. This artificial blockage of select channels is a fall-out of the vicious war fought for eye-balls and market share by channels themselves and on their behalf by the MSO.

The fact that for airing these popular channels, nothing had to be paid to the rival network ensured that these channels could be aired with minimum financial damage. However, now these ‘popular, much-in-demand’ channels too have to be paid for as part of the entire package, as stand-alone channels have become very expensive. This led the MSO’s to rethink their strategy, which was crucial for their survival as customers had become more demanding.
