Maharashtra cable operators plan stir

The cable operators across Maharashtra are upset over a raid on cable control rooms by officials of the Entertainment Tax Department on Monday in Pune. According to market sources, cable operators across Maharashtra are gearing up to go on a strike, which may eventually turn into a nationwide agitation. The move follows a demand from tax sleuths that cable operators deposit entertainment tax on a per subscriber basis at the local tax offices, without hiding the number of subscribers.
