Lashkara to organise music award show

Lashkara plans to organise a music awards show to create a national and international platform for artistes. The annual event will be telecast globally and will have prominent judges like Jagjit Singh, Anup Jalota, Naqsh Layalpuri, Dev Kohli and Anand Raj Anand, to decide the winners in 11 categories.

Godrej Kali Mehndi, the sponsor of the show, has made a commitment of Rs 15 lakh. Co-sponsors including T-series, Tata Tea, Ford and PEN, will be paying Rs 10 lakh each. Associate Sponsors have agreed to cough up Rs 5 lakh each. They include Gujarat Ambuja, Johnson & Johnson, Yahoo, Clearsil and Bank of Punjab.

The event will take place on June 22 in the Siri Fort auditorium in Delhi with performances from Udit Narayan, Anuradha Paudwal, Annamika, Hans Raj Hans and Babbu Maan. It will be simultaneously telecast between 9-12 p.m. in UK, Australia and India on a global footprint on July 1.

Winners will be declared in 11 categories including best male singer, best female singer, male and female debutante singer, lyricist, music director, sufi singer, folk singer, video director and music video. There will be three special awards: lifetime achievement, Raagi, and contribution to the Punjabi music industry.

The channel is spending Rs 20 lakh on promoting the award event. It will be a landmark for the channel. The channel has decided to come up with such mega events every two months.

Lashkara already runs local events in Punjab and Delhi on Thursdays and Sundays between 9-10 p.m. in a programme called Rannkan (Mela).
