Films Division has requested Prasar Bharati to give them a dedicated channel. According to Mr. Bakin, Chief Producer, Film Division, short films and documentaries cannot go on the normal entertainment channels as it has niche viewership.
Films Division plans to organise Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) from February 3-9, 2002. The Division is seeking permission from the filmmakers to air some of the films on Doordarshan channel. The MIFF will feature some 58 international films and 76 Indian films. It will have retrospectives of four well-known filmmakers and have seven special packages based on wildlife, women, Russian animation and so on.
