Discovery to premier World Birthday on Jan 1, 2002

Discovery Channel will premier World Birthday at 8.00 p.m. on January 1, 2002 with a repeat telecast at 2.00 a.m. on Wednesday, 2nd January 2002. The show tells the unique stories of twelve babies born around the globe on the same day.

On July 5th 2001, 360,000 children were born around the world. Between the first hours of July 5 in Beijing through the close of the next day in San Francisco, nine teams of video journalists, across five continents, captured the drama, anticipation and emotion as twelve of those children came into the world.

In an exclusive television event, World Birthday travels to nine countries spanning 17 time zones in the space of one long day, to meet eleven families preparing for the arrival of their newest members.

Women from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds are connected through the common experience of birth. World Birthday gives viewers a glimpse into the unique traditions and preparations surrounding childbirth, the infants’ first day of life, and how universally, these new arrivals change the lives of their parents and families dramatically.

Discovery Channel India, which was launched in 1995, is a 24-hour pay channel, providing real-life entertainment to the whole family, currently reaching over 21 million homes throughout India.
