DD Sports to hike subscription rates from November

DD Sports plans to hike subscription rates by 20 per cent from November, just before the proposed three-Test series between England and India. The price of the channel will go up from Rs 5.90 a subscriber per month to Rs 7.15. The rate hike comes a year after Modi Entertainment Network started distributing DD Sports as pay channel.

DD Sports doesn’t plans to have a separate pricing in the package deal that MEN does with cable operators. Doordarshan has warned its distribution agent against any such deals. DD Sports will be priced at Rs 7.15 while the price of the other two channels will vary according to the combination on operator takes.

According to Multi System Operators (MSOs) are saying that the acceptance of any hike in rate will depend on the England tour of India which has become uncertain with the war in Afghanistan.

MEN had initially signed with DD Sports assuring that channel of a minimum guarantee of five million paid subscribers in the first year of operations. But this was reduced to three million, as DD Sports will be simulcasting the one dayer cricket matches with the national network.
