Carat wins Hyundai $500 million media account

Hyundai is moving the $500 million U.S. media account of Hyundai Motor America and Kia Motors America to Aegis Group's Carat North America, New York.

Cordiant Communications Group's Bates West USA and New York, was the incumbent for Hyundai, while Omnicom Group's OMD handled Kia. Bates takes the bigger hit, as billings for its account were at $350 million.

Bates has been Hyundai's only creative and media agency since the brand's 1986 U.S. launch. The account was put into review late last year. Independent Horizon Media, New York, was also a finalist. Bates had not been invited to pitch.

Also in December, Kia shuffled its top management ranks, naming J.H. Lee president-CEO.
