B4U sells telecast rights of 30 movies to Sahara

In the single largest deal, B4U sold telecast rights for 30 movies to Sahara. B4U Group has earlier sold movie rights to entertainment channels but not on such a large scale. B4U already sells movie rights to the public broadcaster, Doordarshan-1 and DD-2. Besides B4U has also sold movie rights to HFCL-Nine Broadcasting India to telecast on DD Metro in prime time. The intention behind this move was to maximise the rotation of the B4U-owned content and generate additional revenue.

The fact that both have a Hindi entertainment channel pitted against each other has not stopped B4U from taking such a commercial decision. B4U Group has earlier sold movie rights to entertainment channels but not on such a large scale.

The resale of movie telecast rights by a satellite channel to another private entertainment channel is an unnatural phenomenon. The intention was to maximise the rotation of the B4U-owned content. B4U already sells movie rights to the public broadcaster, Doordarshan-1 and DD-2. Besides B4U has also sold movie rights to HFCL-Nine Broadcasting India to telecast on DD Metro in prime time.

Unlike other broadcasting companies like Star TV and Sony Entertainment Television, B4U, hold all types of rights to most of the movies that they have acquired. B4U has the right to sell to other channels besides having purchased it for a longer period.

The movies, will be delivered over a period of one year. Most of them will be for a single telecast with the right to repeat telecast it once.

The movies procured by Sahara include Parinda, Kareeb and Satya. The channel will telecast it on Sundays at 8 pm. Sahara has also acquired some rights to movies which have not been shown on other channels.

Sahara is negotiating with individual producers to obtain telecast rights even before the production of the movie is over. The channel is talking to Mr. Tapan Sinha to get rights to his movie, Daughters of the Century.
