HDFC life ties up with Spell Bee to present ‘India Spells 2011’

Today Mumbai saw, Taare Zameen Par child sensation Darsheel Safary, announce the academic and distinctive quiz format series in India formatted under the patronage of Scripps spelling Bee USA, on behalf of Alternate Brand Solutions India Limited and HDFC. The initiative organizes an annual event in the US based on a similar format. Safary is the brand ambassador for HDFC Life Spell Bee ‘India spells 2011’.

Others present for the occasion were Sanjay Tripathy, Executive Vice President and Head, Marketing and Direct Channels, HDFC Life; Amit Sharma, Business Head, Alternate Brand Solutions India Limited and the quiz connoisseur, Derek O’Brien.

The series is not new in India as the first season originally started in the year 2009. It targeted 650 schools across 11 cities. It was followed by the second season which was bigger than the previous, targeting 12 cities and covering just about 1200 schools.

After the appreciation and recognition received at the end of the first two seasons, the third season is apparently even bigger and even better as it will see 13 new cities joining the competition, bringing the city total to an impressive 25.

The show will be aired on TEN Sports and is expected to be on air somewhere around the first week of March. When asked why Ten Sports chosen as the channel to air the show, Sanjay Tripathi said that since the target audience are the parents; especially the father as he is the one taking the call on a ‘future plan’ for his child; it is TEN Sports that attracts their perspective target group. Also because of its WWF spree TEN Sports is the preferred channel.

The winner of the show will win an all expense paid trip along with one parent to witness the Scripps International Spelling Bee at Washington DC.
