Yahoo! joins hands with BSNL, BPL, Aircel for search services on mobile devices

Yahoo! has announced its association with mobile service operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), BPL Mobile and Maxis Aircel to provide Yahoo! oneSearch on mobile devices in India. The portal already has a tie-up with Idea Cellular. The announcement of partners for India and other Asia Pacific markets was made at the Mobile Asia Congress being held in Macau, China, which got underway on November 12 and will go on till November 15.

Both Yahoo! and the mobile service operators the parties intend to enhance the search experience for consumers on mobile phones, along with providing all the companies with new revenue streams through mobile advertising. Yahoo! oneSearch is specifically designed for mobile devices, delivering results directly in the first screen and thereby eliminating the need for consumers to navigate through a sea of links to websites to find the information they want.

The arrangements with BSNL also include providing Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger services to BSNL subscribers, in India. “BSNL is please to partner with Yahoo! in bringing to its subscribers a true mobile Internet experience with Yahoo! oneSearch. We look at this as the beginning of a deepening relationship in the months to come,” observed Gopal Das, Director, BSNL.

According to S Subramaniam, CEO, BPL Mobile, said, “This relationship will leverage the strengths of both the companies to deliver a high quality service to our subscribers.”

“Yahoo!’s new partnership with BSNL, BPL and Maxis Aircel furthers our leadership in mobile, and demonstrates our commitment to enhance the mobile Internet experience by delivering relevant information and instant answers to customers on their mobile devices,” added David Ko, VP and GM, Yahoo! Connected Life.

Yahoo! oneSearch is now available in 20 countries around the world including Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, the UK, the US, etc. Yahoo! oneSearch was first launched in the US in January this year.
