Yahoo! ‘Big Idea Chair’ award now in India

Yahoo! India is bringing the ‘Big Idea Chair’ Award to India for the very first time. It is one of the most prestigious awards known the world over and will be presented at the Effies 2005.

The ‘Big Idea Chair’, tagged as the best in the house, is a purple spotlight on the people, companies and work that is truly remarkable. It is the ultimate recognition of creativity by awarding them with a very special and large comfortable purple chair called the ‘Yahoo! Big Idea Chair’.

The Chair will be awarded to the brand that has successfully transformed itself with effective brand positioning, intelligent use of media and creativity. The ‘Big Idea Chair’ has been presented in the US this year at several prominent shows such as ADDY Awards, Effies Awards, CLIO Awards, International ANDY Awards, The DTC National Awards, and many more.

Elaborating on the initiative of bringing the award to India, Pearl Uppal, Director Sales, Yahoo! India, said, “The ‘Big Idea Chair’ award is Yahoo’s commitment towards recognising outstanding work in advertising. We have been working very closely with the advertising fraternity and this awards excellence in media and creative.”

Interestingly, this is the first time that the award is travelling outside the US. The ‘Big Idea Chair’ is Yahoo’s brainchild and was started in 2003 in the US. It is positioned as the only advertising award honouring creative achievements on the basis of ‘real world’ market success.

Uppal further said, “Yahoo! India is the market leader with 69 per cent reach. We are getting aggressive in the market and we are striving to ensure the same level of commitment in India as in the International market. With this, Yahoo! India reiterates its commitment towards online creativity and effectiveness.”

Yahoo! India has been associated with the Effies for three years now with Effies 2005 being the fourth year where it will be the presenting sponsor. “We wanted to do something different and wanted to increase our engagement with the Effies and bring in a new twist and awards for the industry. We hope it creates enough excitement,” Uppal added.

All entries for Effies will be eligible for the ‘Big Idea Chair’ award. Yahoo! India is all set to import the ‘Big Chair’ from the US to India to keep the identity of the award intact. Till now there are no concrete plans as to where the award will go from India, but the intention definitely is to make it as big and sought after an award as in the US.
