Web18 launches entertainment portal Buzz18

Web18 has announced the launch of its new entertainment portal Buzz18, which intends to present film entertainment on Internet in a completely different light. The site will feature videos, news and downloadable content from the Hindi and regional film industries.

Talking about the difference between the current crop of entertainment sites and Buzz18, Suryamantha, CEO, Web 18, said, “We have combined the best of print, TV and web for this portal. Currently, the market is crying out loud for quality content, as the available content on the web is usually sleazy and pirated, or the ones available from print publications.”

Commenting on the revenue model, Suryamantha noted that the portal would be looking only at an ad supported model at this present stage, which will include banner spots as well as video ads. “Over time, as the Indian market matures and with the availability of differentiated content, we might bring in subscription-based revenue model,” he remarked.

The site intends to feature the latest news, updates, interviews and gossip from the film industry, whether it is from the Bhojpuri, Hindi, Tamil or Bengali film industries. TV and music sections aim to provide the viewers with the latest news, highlights, reviews and previews.

It will also provide a platform to listen to music created by amateurs and professional musicians across the country, along with a chance to upload audio, video, and write reviews. A yellow pages section on the industry is a part of the plan, where visitors can locate professionals from the industry, and even allows uploading.
