Oneindia launches WAP version of its Indian language portals

Oneindia, a leading online network of Indian language portals, has launched WAP version of its English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam portals, which will enable viewers to get ‘information on the move’. Viewers have to simply point their GPRS-enabled mobile devices to any of the following URLs --,,, and, to access this service.

These WAP sites offer news and classifieds, TV listings and theatre show timings in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. They also offer national, international, sports and entertainment news, along with a complete guide to TV programme schedule and free online classifieds on housing, jobs, goods and services for sale from top Indian metros. Users can also check current show timings at major cinema halls in top six cities in India. Movies are listed by region, language and theatre, stated an official communiqué.

“Mobile phones are revolutionising the way people wish to receive information. According to TRAI figures, Indians prefer to surf the Internet while on the move; one out of every five mobile users in India connects to the Internet through mobile phone. Whether PC or mobile, our aim is to give users of the freedom of access to information, no matter what technology they are using,” said B G Mahesh, CEO, Greynium Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

The communiqué also mentioned that these mobile sites are designed in a compatible format that easily supports all mobile devices in India.
