Mobio Networks launches new application for cricket lovers with GPRS mobile phones

Mobio Networks has launched Mobio Cricket Centre, a new application on GPRS mobile phones for cricket fans around the world to follow the ICC World Cup 2007. This application includes Mobio Cricket Centre-Live! for live scores, and Mobio Cricket Centre-Fantasy which allows users to enjoy a personalised experience while following the tournament on the mobile phone.

Based in Silicon Valley in the US, Mobio makes over 50 dynamic applications and widgets for consumers that work together and are based on mash ups of web services. Around the globe, people use Mobio’s applications on their mobile phones to locate the hottest bars, call a cab, find alternative flights, book a table at the latest restaurants and follow events like the ICC World Cup.

Mobio Cricket Centre-Live! is a mobile cricket portal that enables users to stay in touch with matches as they take place. Cricket lovers can use popular model mobile phones to get real time score updates, wormcharts, wagonwheels, match schedules, player statistics, standings, and scorecards for all matches, team rosters, and check player profiles.

Mobio Cricket Centre-Fantasy makes it fun for the user to play along during the World Cup, by selecting his own team of 11 players from the list of players playing on a particular match day, and winning points based on the performance of their team. Users can also create their own private group of players with friends and family to play against one another during the World Cup.

Said Ramneek Bhasin, CEO, Mobio Networks, “We wanted to provide the 1.3 billion people around the world who will be following the World Cup an immersive experience that complements their mobile sports and entertainment lifestyles.”

Mobio will release these applications in India and then worldwide over the next few days. In India, the applications will be released in partnership with Indiatimes, the digital wing of the Times Group. The live scores application will be offered as Cricket Station in India and users can get access to it by sending a text message, SMS LIVE to 8888. The Fantasy application will be available to users as Howzzat!!! In India and can be obtained by sending a text message SMS PLAY to 8888. Both applications run on GSM networks of Airtel, Hutch, BSNL, IDEA Cellular, MTNL in Mumbai and Delhi, and BPL Mobile . Both applications will be available via simple downloads for the entire duration of the World Cup.
