Mauj’s ‘wallGenie’ to turn cellphone users into ‘wallpaper wizards’

Mauj Telecom has announced the launch of a new WAP-based mobile application called ‘wallGenie’. It is a one-of-a-kind application to makes the user a ‘wallpaper wizard’, enabling him to custom-make and individualise his own mobile wallpaper – wallpaper that speaks your heart.

The application can be downloaded through operator portals like Idea Cellular’s Ideafresh, MTNL’s Funstation, and BSNL’s CellOne Galaxy or by logging onto or by SMSing ‘wallGenie’ to 7007 on Hutch, Orange, Idea, MTNL and BSNL. The application is affordably priced between Rs 9 and Rs 15, depending upon the service.

On the occasion of the launch, COO of Mauj, Arun Gupta, said, “This is the age of personalisation. People want their products custom-made. Be it cars, bikes, pocket-watches, every accessory needs to carry the tag of individuality. Personalisation is a big driver in the ringtone category, caller ring back tone and now, also in the wallpaper market. Besides, imagery-based mobile content is also becoming very popular. WallGenie is especially created for users who want to design their own personal wallpaper with utmost ease.”

The procedure as stated is very simple. For instance, if there is a template image of a beautiful chocolate cake with text, which appears as if it is written in cream icing, the consumer logs on to the wallGenie application on mobile Internet and chooses this template. He then, types in a text like ‘Happy Bday Sunil’ and clicks on the preview. Programmatically, in real time, a wallpaper will be generated, which flashes ‘Happy Bday Sunil’ in cream icing effect on the chocolate cake.

If the user is not satisfied with the result, he can go back, and keep on making the changes and previewing till he gets it right. Once the user is satisfied, he clicks on the download button, and downloads the custom created image as mobile wallpaper.
