LinkedIn, which has over 90 million members worldwide, has announced the launch of LinkedInToday, a social newspaper which will leverage the links shared by users of the network to create the headlines from the most popular stories across multiple industries.
While similar social new readers exist, this is the first that will gather shared data from LinkedIn and will also provide trending data across industries in a customised and tailored way to be relevant to the user’s areas of interest.
The social newsletter will allow members to view the new through according to their own network, industry or the full network, and members can also see what their connections are reading. Another feature will be trending data, which will provide a digest of top of the mind headlines according to industry for domain specific news and insights.
“LinkedIn Today provides our members with a quick and easy way to digest trending news gleaned from the collective wisdom of 90 million professionals – what they are reading, what they are sharing, and what they are saying,” said Deep Nishar, SVP, Product and User Experience, LinkedIn. “Having a professional and tailored lens on news and insights is not only an efficient way to gather information for your work day, but it also arms you with the insights you need to make strategic business decisions,” he added.
The newsletter will also be customised by industry or outlet, so a reader could choose to follow news from digital companies, for example, or see updates from Mashable, in addition to the most shared headlines.
LinkedIn will also use the newsletter to recommend news sources which have integrated LinkedIn Share functionality, such as Bloomberg.com or CNN Money. This service will also be available to the mobile users of LinkedIn.
