Intel Corporation has unveiled Intel Centrino Duo, a new mobile technology for new generation laptops. This new platform is aimed at advancing the emerging digital lifestyle at home, work and on the go. The key components have been designed in India and deliver breakthrough capabilities and improve responsiveness and efficiency of mobile workers.

Close to 500 members of the Intel India Development Centre have contributed to developing this new mobile technology platform. The team’s aim was to develop a technology that had a smaller form factor, more battery life and less power consumption.

Anand Chandrasekhar, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Sales and Marketing group, Intel Corporation, said, “Intel is focused on creating an innovative mobile computing platform that ushers in a new era of working, playing and living. The Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology platform developed in India creates a new leap in how people work and play, taking advantage of a new generation of uses and experiences.”

Intel Centrino Duo is powered by the Intel Core Duo process, formerly codenamed ‘Yonah’. Intel’s new, mobile dual-core processor is manufactured using the company’s 65nm process technology that boasts of a unique design with two processors in a package roughly the size of a large postage stamp and brings together performance and breakthrough energy-efficiency to inspire innovative laptop and PC designs.

This new technology promises a rich experience in watching movies, listening to music and playing games as it delivers over 70 per cent improvement in performance and 28 per cent more battery life compared to previous technology platforms.

As an all-in-one entertainment device, Centrino Duo mobile technology features enhanced three-dimensional graphics and the option to view high-definition TV. When enabled with Intel high-definition audio, it also features up to 7.1 surround sound with support for Dolby Digital.

For enhanced manageability and bolstered security the technology supports Intel Active Management technology and Intel Virtualization technology.

The small size of the platform components of Centrino Duo mobile technology enables a wide variety of laptop sizes and innovative designs.

This new technology platform comprises the Intel Core Duo Processor with dual-core processing and the mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset family. The platform also includes the Intel PRO/ Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, Intel’s next generation wireless connection advancing WLAN performance of standard Wi-Fi networks and supports enhanced features that make applications more aware, connected and responsive to deliver a better mobile experience.
