Indiatimes forays into daily deals biz

The Times Internet Group has recently launched TimesDeal.com, a beta offering which will be the second entry from the company in the daily deals space. The first, some years ago, was the mobile based ActiveDeals by Indiatimes 58888, and TimesDeal will be working in parallel to the existing business. The site, launched on Friday, enters a space which has over 20 websites actively vying for the same audience, but according to an Indiatimes spokesperson, there is still room for growth in the vertical.

The spokesperson said, “In the end, it’s not a winner take all market and we really aren’t thinking about everyone else; we’re just trying to make a good experience for our consumers and a strong business proposition for our merchants. We think we have unique relationships with many merchants, and we also have a great connect with consumers on a number of fronts. We also have a few product ideations which will come out in the next 1-2 months which are different from what's out there today.”

The new site will be completely independent of the existing Activedeals business, which is mobile based, and has a different business model. According to the spokesperson, “Both have great business prospects and will continue to operate as they do today.” The site will reach to the customers through a variety of strategies, but as the launch is still only in the beta stage, the marketing campaign, which will rely on both digital and traditional means, will be planned later.
