comScore report names Network18’s in.com as No. 2 Indian website

In.com, the latest venture from Web 18, the digital arm of Network18, has emerged as India’s No. 2 online destination in the latest comScore report for the month of September, building on its launch momentum. However, though new to the industry, in.com’s success doesn’t come as much of a surprise to the online industry.

While many attribute in.com’s success to the thought process of placing various applications under the same roof, media observers feel that the recently-launched portal’s success is a positive sign.

A release quoted Rishi Khiani, COO, Web18, as saying, “The latest set of numbers ratifies our belief that the Indian online space is ripe for a new service that delivered the medium smartly and yet comprehensively.”

V Ramani, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Ignitee, said, “The surge of in.com was expected and we are not surprised with the comScore report ranking it as No. 2 among Indian websites and that too in a short span of time. However, from here on, in.com should end their party and get back to work aiming for the No. 1 position.”

Anurag Gupta, CEO, DGM India, noted, “The Network18 Group has used all their properties to market in.com. The remarkable packaging and advertising made have helped the brand grow so rapidly. The rapid growth and popularity of in.com has also made it a huge thumping story for us as well. The horizontal portal has also given advertisers a earning good opportunity.”

According to Nirvan Biswas, Head - Digital Business, Mid-Day Infomedia, “With the kind of marketing and publicity done for in.com, it certainly was expected that the website would surge ahead of other Indian websites. Sustainability will be the major challenge for in.com, but the No. 1 position for it will not be an issue at all.” comScore is a global Internet information provider to which leading companies turn for consumer behaviour insight that drives successful marketing, sales and trading strategies.

Top 2000 web domains were part of this report across India in all locations dated September 20, 2008, targeting all kinds of audiences. According to the report, in.com ranks No. 13 among global players. In India, the website has left established players like Indiatimes.com and Sify.com far behind.
