With just a few days left for the presentation of Union Budget 2011, exchange4media talks to some entrepreneurs whose businesses will be affected by Budget proposals, and asks them to share their thoughts on what they expect and what they are hoping the Government will say that pertains to their sector.
Ashish Kashyap, CEO, Ibibo, has a clear sector-specific focus on this issue – talking about e-commerce and online advertising, which is not surprising considering these are the main revenue models for his website.
His Budget wishlist is service tax exemption on online advertising, which could lead to far greater growth in an area where the numbers are still small. Such an exemption would further increase the price-value benefit that online publishers can offer when compared against traditional media, and, therefore, increase involvement in the domain.
Also, perhaps because of Ibibo’s involvement in online games and other e-commerce-based services as well, Kashyap further said that he hoped that the Government would provide “tax sops on e-commerce transactions”.
Such a decision could potentially have a higher impact on the user side of things, leading to slightly lower costs for online transactions, though whether such a thing is likely to happen is another matter entirely.
