For obvious reasons, the 2017 Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday was trending on social media, generating 88k tweets and 1690 conversations on Facebook, as mapped by research firm, Meltwater. The budget centred on demonetisation, farming sector, youth, digitisation, rural population, health care for the poor and underprivileged, infrastructure and tax administration.
Some of the highlights include the increase of NABARD fund to Rs 40,000 crore, allocation of Rs 3 lakh crore for rural India, focus on 3,479 educationally-backward blocks, budget for railways is Rs 1,31,000 crore and reduction of tax rate for those earning between Rs 2.5 and Rs 5 lakh from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.
So far the budget induced more positive (69 per cent) than negative sentiments (31 per cent), according to Meltwater. The other trending keywords were IRCTC, tickets, income, Arun Jaitley and Rahul Gandhi.
