Following massive outrage, government has withdrawn the press release on the Guidelines for Accreditation of Journalists, deciding to suspend the accreditation of journalists whoever would be involved in creating or propagating fake news, in less than 24 hours of it being issued.
For the first time Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has reconstituted the composition of Committee on Journalist Welfare Scheme and Central Press Accreditation Committee in which journalists are made members. The scheme came into force from March 28, 2018.
