The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ram Sewak Sharma as Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), with a tenure until September 30, 2020. Sharma was reappointed as Chairman for two more years on Thursday, just a day before the ending of his three year term, which commenced in July, 2015.
Sharma, an IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, previously worked as Information Technology Secretary, and was instrumental in implementing the Aadhar initiative during his time as Director General and Mission Director with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
He is also credited with designing important digital services, such as digital locker, and for speedy execution of schemes to drive the manufacture of electronics in the country.
