DCMN wins media mandate for Truecaller

The account will be handled from the Gurgaon office of DCMN.

exchange4media News Service 14-September-2018

DCMN India has bagged the media mandate for communications app Truecaller. The account was won following a multi-agency pitch that involved several big agencies. The mandate includes managing the company’s TV media duties across different markets and campaign tracking using DCMN’s proprietary TV attribution technology, DC Analytics, the agency said in a statement.

The pitch process was held in New Delhi and the account will be handled by DCMN’s Gurgaon office. The business will be led by Bindu Balakrishnan, Country Head, DCMN India.

Truecaller is all set to launch its new TV campaign, which aims to communicate its new features that positions it beyond just a caller ID app. The app integrated video calling, instant messaging and even payments in March last year. The features have been embedded in the app to take into account the demands of a new-age user and over the last year, audiences have responded well to the updates.

Speaking about it, Manan Shah, Director Marketing - India, Truecaller, said, “Over 150 million people use Truecaller in India alone, primarily to know who is calling. Over the last year, Truecaller has transformed into a complete communication suite with video calling, a unique instant messaging utility called Flash and integrated UPI based payments and banking features. This is a story worth telling to our users so that they can find all these features in their most-loved app, without the need to use multiple apps.”

During the pitch process, the synergies between DCMN India and Truecaller became apparent because Truecaller understood the importance of TV tracking, a unique offering from DCMN in the Indian market, the statement mentioned.

With the help of its flagship tool DC Analytics, DCMN India will analyse how consumers are using these top-end features of the Truecaller app in real-time across different locations.

Speaking on the association, Balakrishnan said, “I am very excited about this partnership as I am a Truecaller user myself. The idea of integrating video calling, payment and instant messaging into the app solves multiple purposes for any consumer. While awareness and downloads are already high, the brand is now looking at performance metrics as its main KPI for the upcoming TV campaign. Our strength lies in the experience we have in performance media marketing. DCMN’s performance approach includes data-driven media planning and tracking the direct response at a TV spot level with our proprietary TV attribution tool. We are looking at running a highly optimized media campaign for Truecaller.”

“Using DC Analytics, DCMN India will track the growth and usage of the new features on the app once the campaign is launched. With the real time learnings, we will help Truecaller optimise its media spend and reach a larger audience. Our tracking tool is a unique offering to the Indian market,” Balakrishnan added.

Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal resigns after allegations of ‘personal misconduct’

While the probe did not find evidence to corroborate complainant’s assertions against Binny, it did reveal other lapses in judgement, particularly a lack of transparency, Walmart said in a statement.

BinnyBansal

Flipkart's Co-founder & Group CEO Binny Bansal has resigned from the company with immediate effect following an internal investigation conducted by Flipkart and its parent firm Walmart into an allegation of “serious personal misconduct.”

Bansal (37) has, however, strongly denied the allegations, Walmart has said in a statement issued on Tuesday, according to media reports.

The statement reportedly read, "Earlier today, Binny Bansal announced his resignation as CEO of Flipkart Group, effective immediately. Binny has been an important part of Flipkart since co-founding the company, but recent events risked becoming a distraction and Binny has made a decision to step down.”

“His decision follows an independent investigation done on behalf of Flipkart and Walmart into an allegation of serious personal misconduct. He strongly denies the allegation. Nevertheless, we had a responsibility to ensure the investigation was deliberate and thorough. While the investigation did not find evidence to corroborate the complainant’s assertions against Binny, it did reveal other lapses in judgement, particularly a lack of transparency, related to how Binny responded to the situation. Because of this, we have accepted his decision to resign,” the statement added.

The statement further read, “Binny has been contemplating a transition for some time and we have been working together on a succession plan, which has now been accelerated. Going forward, Kalyan Krishnamurthy will continue to be CEO of Flipkart, which will now include Myntra and Jabong, continuing to operate as separate platforms within the Flipkart business. Ananth Narayanan will continue providing great leadership as CEO of Myntra and Jabong, and will report into Kalyan. Sameer Nigam will continue leading PhonePe as CEO. Both Kalyan and Sameer will report directly into the board."

Bansal had stayed on at Flipkart while his other co-founder Sachin Bansal left the company after Walmart acquired majority ownership in the online retailer earlier this year.

adidas signs heptathlete & Asian Games 2018 gold medalist Swapna Barman

The brand is supporting Barman by designing customised high-performance footwear for her. Barman has 6 toes on each foot.

SwapnaAdidas

After announcing deals with sprinter Hima Das and football club Real Kashmir FC, adidas India continued to add to their partnerships by signing India’s first gold medal winning heptathlete Swapna Barman who won the gold at the recently held Asian Games in Indonesia.

Swapna Burman came into the limelight when she became the first Indian heptathlete to win an Asian Games Gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. Not only did her spectacular win get everybody’s attention but so did her 12 toes (6 on each foot), which in spite of being a challenge, weren’t able to diminish her spirits. Swapna won admiration and accolades for battling physical discomfort and pain to create history.

Over the last two months, adidas has worked extensively with authorities in India and their own athlete services lab at the headquarters in Germany to seek a solution for Barman. The brand has decided to support her by designing customised high-performance footwear and shall be providing her with seven unique pairs, one each for the seven different events of heptathlon.

Barman recently visited the adidas athlete services lab in Herzogenaurach, Germany, where a detailed footwear analysis was carried out. The customised footwear made especially for Swapna after this analysis means she will no longer have to squeeze her six toes into shoes made for five toes.

On Barman’s return, Sean Van Wyk, Senior Marketing Director, adidas India, while interacting with media said, “At adidas, we believe that ‘through sport, we have the power to change lives’ and Swapna is a great example of this. We are extremely happy to welcome Swapna into the adidas family. On this journey with her, we shall, together, inspire today’s youth to take to sports and create a positive change in and around their lives.”

Wyk added, “We salute her spirit and what she has achieved despite the challenges. We would like to help her in her journey by providing the best products tailored to her needs that shall enable her to maximize her potential. The customised solutions for Swapna have been crafted keeping in mind size, pressure points and cushioning requirements to provide her the perfect fit, comfort, and traction. This is just a step to reiterate our brand’s obsession to provide athletes, teams and consumers with only the best products, services and experiences”

Speaking about her association with adidas, Swapna Burman said: “It’s an honour for any sportsperson to be associated with the adidas family. I realized my dream of winning a gold medal for India, now I am preparing to fulfil my next dream of winning an Olympic Gold for India. I am looking forward to train and compete in my new footwear and with the continued support from adidas I am sure I shall continue improving as an athlete.”

Commenting on the association, Namrata Parekh, Co-founder and Director of Meraki Sport and Entertainment, the company which manages Barman, said, "we have been working with Swapna since 2017 and we are delighted to have a brand like adidas coming forward to support her for her footwear and other performance requirements. We'd like to thank her coach, Mr. Sarkar, GoSports Foundation and Sports Authority of India for all their help and guidance in making this happen.”

Recently, adidas signed sprint sensation Hima Das to support her in her journey towards becoming the best sprinter in the world. In addition, the brand partnered with Real Kashmir, the first team from Kashmir to ever qualify for I-League.
