VSNL Q1 net dips to Rs 365.5 crore

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (VSNL) has reported a 4.54 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 365.5 crore for first quarter ended June 30, 2001 as compared to Rs 383 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal. Net sales for the first quarter ended June 30, 2001 was also lower by 10.19 per cent at Rs 1,528.3 crore against Rs 1,701.8 crore for the same quarter last year.

Revenue from telephony was lower by about 11 per cent due to a steep reduction of TAR (Total Accounting Rate) by about 27-28 per cent as compared to the TAR taken for the corresponding period of the previous year. The revenue growth from value added services were also affected during the period due to significant reduction in tariffs by about 50-70 per cent in respect of IPLC and Internet Service.
