SpiceJet meets creative agencies

SpiceJet is on the lookout for a creative partner. The airline is meeting agencies in Delhi, who have been asked to present their ideas. Highly placed sources have confirmed the news to exchange4media; however, there was no official confirmation at the time of filing the report. Currently, the business is handled by JWT’s Delhi office. SpiceJet’s agreement with the agency ends in March.

JWT had bagged the creative duties of SpiceJet after a multi-agency pitch in February last year. The creative duties of SpiceJet have been with Grey and Contract Advertising, part of the JWT group earlier. Before Contract, the account was managed by Gopika Chowfla Design.

Recently, the brand announced fare cuts of as much as 30 per cent to stay ahead of the competition and reduce wastage of seats that would otherwise be empty in the low season. Rival airline companies such as IndiGo, GoAir and Jet Airways also announced similar discount schemes on air travel. The brand had released a hilarious campaign in 2010 with the tagline ‘Get more when you fly’.

The civil aviation sector in India continues to struggle under the burden of several adversities, mainly the Indian Rupee that saw unprecedented weakness over the last few months. Several airline companies are bleeding due to the uncertain economic scenario in India.

For the record, SpiceJet started its operations in May 2005 and is one of India’s preferred airlines, with approximately 17.4 per cent of the market share in Indian domestic market.
