Reporter’s Diary: What a kick off!!

A lawyer? How come into journalism? Well, that’s the reaction I have become absolutely accustomed to in the past 15 days post joining exchange4media. Trust me, it’s an experience, a whole new world for me, it seems like I am living someone else’s life. For the past five years, my life has been all about case laws and sections, and now my life revolves around advertisements and advertisers.

Unlimited fun, accompanied by massive amounts of hard work is what I expect 2011 to have stockpiled for me. While studying ‘media laws’ I did carry out researches on heavy duty subjects like ‘freedom of speech of media’, ‘advertising ethics’ and the likes, but am realising their actual importance after stepping into the shoes of a journalist. Undoubtedly, there is a certain level of anxiety, but I guess excitement and anxiety follow each other and they are a part and parcel of my profession. The thought of meeting the ‘biggies’ of an industry, which is absolutely new to me, enlivens me to the core, but also brings on the butterflies in my tummy.

Meeting Miles Young, Ogilvy Worldwide’s CEO, was just the beginning. I have agencies like JWT, Leo Burnett, Euro RSCG and so many more in my kitty. I foresee a year full of meetings, stories, events – it won’t be easy, which I realised just yesterday when I had three back to back meetings lined up. But as they say, where there’s will there’s a way.

Being someone who was terrified even on hearing the word ‘local train’, I now travel by it everyday. My day begins with taking a rickshaw from JB Nagar to Andheri station, a fast local from Andheri to Bandra station and then a rickshaw again from the station to my office, God! I am actually tired writing that I have no clue how I manage to do it, probably it’s my passion towards this job. I am surely looking forward to meeting some absolutely ingenious people and imbibing most of whatever I get.

PS: Please drop in an email if you know of any place where I can shift to cut down on my travelling time and the sarcastic comments I get from my colleagues (wink, wink)…
