Regular Internet user base to touch 79 lakhs by end of 2001: Gartner

The regular Internet users base in the country is projected to double by end of 2001 to touch the 79-lakhs mark, according to Gartner consultancy report on Asia-Pacific markets.

India had 4 million regular users by end-2000, resulting from 255 per cent growth over 1999, and will increase to staggering 40 million by 2005, the research and advisory firm tracking IT sector said.

India would be the second-largest Internet users' market in the Asia-Pacific region, following only China and about 3.8 per cent of country's population would use Net on regular basis by 2005, it added.
