Puma India ropes in Sourav Ganguly

Puma Sports India, the domestic subsidiary of the German sports lifestyle major Puma, as has signed on cricketer Sourav Ganguly as its brand ambassador. He will wear Puma cricket footwear and apparel in all of his appearances at forthcoming matches. The announcement coincides with the launch of Puma’s much-anticipated cricket collection in the country. The contract is for a year.

“Puma has created a collection that truly meets an athlete’s performance needs,” said Ganguly, adding, “not only does the collection provide me with technical benefits and comfort I want, but Puma offers a style and look that allows me to make a statement that fits my fashion sense. I feel very fortunate to have a partner like Puma by my side, supporting me at every match and elsewhere.”

Ganguly was recently named the ‘man of the series’ in India’s recent match against Sri Lanka and will be representing India as one of its top stars in the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

“Genius has no youth, but it starts with the ripeness of age and experience. Ganguly is a perfect prototype of this,” said Puma Sports India Managing Director Rajiv Mehta announcing the deal. “He kept going even in his hard days and now has successfully made his place in the recent World Cup. He embodies the perfect combination of grit, skill, endurance and style, which is truly synonymous to the Puma brand.”

Among the highlights of the cricket collection is the new Stealth shoe that blends the Puma-style with one the best in performance technology including cutting edge design, development and style. The inclusion of a carbon composite handle in all bats and the balance control system provides a truly futuristic look with a substantial hitting area.

The protective range epitomises the unique formula where aesthetics is a consequence of development and design. Innovative material selections and design lines on the protective gear and footwear provide you with unrestricted movement and lightweight comfort.

Remaining the weapon of choice of Ganguly, an innings using Stealth will become common knowledge to your opponents, eventually. Footwear and cricket apparel will be available in Puma exclusive retail outlets and key retail stores across the country, beginning the Spring 2007.

Ganguly is already the brand ambassador of Pepsi, Tata Indicom, Reid & Taylor, Hero Honda and TCL.
