Opus CDM bags Epson's dot matrix, laser printer account

Opus CDM (Creative Development Management), a Bangalore-based agency, has bagged the creative and media duties of Epson's dot matrix printer business following a two-way pitch with incumbent H Percept. Besides this, the agency has also been mandated to handle the advertising for Laser printers from Epson, which is to be launched soon.

According to Tushad Talati, Head, Brand & Communications, Epson India, "OpusCDM has been doing excellent creative work for us for some time now. The agency's strength also lies in the fact that they are lean and mean, which means response times are cut in half as compared to a larger agency. These two aspects made them the unanimous choice for us."

Epson's advertising is in the region of Rs 6 to Rs 8 crore currently, split (almost evenly) between its consumer and business products portfolios. With the developments, Opus CDM will handle the business products portfolio of Epson, which comprises of projectors and dot matrix printers currently, and will include laser printers when they will be launched. The size of the individual products' portfolios is not known.

Speaking to exchange4media, Nagesh Manay, Strategy Planning, OpusCDM, said, "We have handled the projector business of Epson for the last three years. Almost all our clients have stayed with us over the years. We go out of our way to work alongside clients but haven't gone out of our way to bag new businesses."

Epson's consumer poducts portfolio, which includes Inkjet printers and All in Ones, is handled by Mudra. While Epson claims that it moved closer last year to the national number one spot in the dot matrix market currently being held by TVSE, it hopes that Opus CDM's creative strength will build a greater affinity for the product-brand. Epson's dot matrix product-brand is positioned on reliability.

OpusCDM is a six-year-old, twelve-member agency. Its client list includes 3M, 3D Networks, Safilo, and Stanley Genuine Leather, and is to handle the launch of LaZboy recliners in India shortly.
