NEW FAB Awards 2006: McCann brings home the Grand Prix; Leo Burnett wins one

McCann Erickson has bagged the Grand Prix, or FABulous Award, for the Best Press and Poster work at the FAB Awards 2006. It was accompanied by a FAB Award for the Best Poster in the Confectionery and Snacks category, also for Big Babol. Leo Burnett Mumbai collected a FAB Award for the Best Poster in the Retailers category.

Prasoon Joshi’s team’s work for Perfetti van Melle’s Big Babol, ‘Kiss’, ‘Crime’, and ‘Adult’, got a unanimous vote from the jury, informed the organisers of FAB 2006. Besides McCann’s FAB and FABulous Awards, Arvind Sharma’s team at Leo Burnett Mumbai won the only other award for India this year, for ‘Hole in Shoe’, for client McDonald’s.

As reported earlier, McCann also had two nominations in TV – ‘Cadet’ and ‘Farmer’ for Coca-Cola – and another nomination in Poster for Sweetex. 1pointsize, Design Temple and JWT were the other agencies from India with finalist entries.

The Agency of the Year, AMV BBDO, London, narrowly beat their colleagues from BBDO New York. AMV BBDO also took the FABulous Award for the Best TV work for Guinness’ ‘Evolution’ film. The FABulous for Packaging Design went to Turner Duckworth, London and San Francisco, for Root:1 wine.

In the Integrated Campaigns category, the Award went to Archibald Ingall Stretton, London, for ‘Enjoy the Moment’ for Hennessy Fine de Cognac, while the FABulous for Collateral and POS went to Kolle Rebbe, Hamburg for the ‘Flip Book’ for Vivil.

The FAB Awards’ 43 trophies for 2006 went to 14 countries from four continents. BBDO New York took 13 nominations – the most by any single agency office – for Pepsi, M&Ms, Snickers, Guinness, Aquafina and Sierra Mist. They were closely followed by AMV BBDO London, who pipped them for Agency of the Year by converting more nominations into Trophies.

In its 8th edition, the FAB Awards attracted over 3,000 pieces of work from over 60 countries this year, covering several categories.
