M&C Saatchi to launch in India with Dhar & Hoon; Kamal Oberoi is Chairman & CEO

M&C Saatchi is poised to enter the Indian advertising industry following its agreement with Delhi-based creative hotshop Dhar & Hoon and well-known industry figure Kamal Oberoi to open a new agency. The operating company has been incorporated as M&C Saatchi Communications Pvt Ltd, and will be the eleventh agency in the Asia Pacific region for the network.

Announcing the new office, Executive Chairman, Asia Pacific, Tom Dery, said that teaming up with Oberoi and Dhar & Hoon was a great coup. "They all bring brilliant credentials and experience to the table, and along with input from Kim Walker, our President and CEO of Asia, it is set to become a highly successful agency for us," he asserted.

The new agency will maintain M&C Saatchi's philosophy of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit with local partners retaining equity in the business.

M&C Saatchi is the fastest growing network in Asia with 11 offices in just 10 years, with the most recent office launched in Bangkok. Other offices in Asia Pacific include Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Tokyo, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington.

Oberoi, a respected figure in the Indian ad industry and formerly president of JWT, will be the Chairman and CEO. "It's a new beginning and an exciting time for me personally and professionally. In this case, small is beautiful and we can deliver a great combination of accumulated learning and a reinvigorated enthusiasm to our clients and the industry at large," said Oberoi, who was in London on a multi-country TV commercial shoot for M&C Saatchi at the time of the announcement.

Dhar & Hoon was recently named among the country's top creative boutiques, with clients including Dabur Foods, Sony Wega Theatre, Walkman and professional media among others.

M&C Saatchi's Kim Walker added, "India is a sophisticated advertising and marketing industry, and we believe M&C Saatchi's approach of 'Brutally Simple Thinking' will resonate strongly with clients in India as it does elsewhere. It's an exciting time for us and we are thrilled to be making such a significant move into this market."

He further said that "Dhar & Hoon and Kamal will also be great exponents of our 'Creativity Sells' philosophy, which has been the key to our success around the world."

M&C Saatchi's major clients in Asia include Qantas, AIA, Zuji, O2, Coca-Cola, British Airways, Tourism Australia and Mandarin Oriental.
