Maddys 2014: TCC is Agency of the Year; RK Swamy, Stark among winners

Winners of the Maddys 2014 were announced in Chennai on March 28. Organised by the Advertising Club of Madras, the awards this year saw TCC (The Communications Central), RK Swamy and Stark Communications emerge as the key winners.

TCC was adjudged Agency of the Year and took home the maximum number of metals at 16 for the work done for its clients – Women Independent, Dura Home Appliances, KFJ, Femme Bra, White Horse, Radha Refineries, Akshaya, among others. The agency’s total tally included six Gold, five Silver and five Bronze metals, as well as a Jury’s Choice award ‘Grand Winner for Print’.

RK Swamy bagged a total of eight metals for work done for its clients Mars International, Moods, Pedigree, TAFE and Valvoline.

Stark Communications, too, bagged eight metals, which included two Gold, five Silver and one Bronze metal.

Congratulating the winners, Karthic Moorthy, President, Ad Club Madras said, “The competition was keenly contested. This time, we saw an increase in the number of entries despite the economic slowdown. The awards were not dominated by just one or two agencies. Unlike other awards, here we had various new agencies competing and walking away with a couple of bronzes and silvers.”

“This time, new and fresh blood was seen doing pretty well. At Maddys, we have always been giving equal chance to every agency. We are planning to take this to the next level and hope to make Maddys much bigger than what it is in the coming year. Having esteemed judges, including a veteran like Mohammed Khan, was a delight.” Moorthy added.

P Subramanian, Past-President, Ad Club Madras added here, “While there was disappointment as the large agencies, apart from RK Swamy, did not participate, but the encouragement came from numerous Chennai agencies, a few from Kerala and Bangalore, which made their presence felt. I could feel a sense of pride amongst winners purely because of the process of evaluation being stricter and transparent.”

This year, close to 500 entries from 64 organisations were received across 33 categories. A three-member jury panel comprising Ramanujan Sridhar, CEO, Integrated Brand-Comm; KV Sridhar; and advertising veteran Mohammed Khan judged the entries received for the Maddys.
