Lipton to sponsor Bangalore International Marathon on May 15

Lipton is sponsoring an international marathon, which is scheduled to be held in Bangalore, on May 15, 2005. The Lipton Bangalore International Marathon, the first such international event in the city, is co-sponsored by Dell.

The marathon is expected to draw 30000 runners that will include many national and international athletes. P Krishnamurthy, General Manager, Lipton, HLL, said, "Lipton stands for natural vitality and so do the marathon. This lively sports like the brand (Lipton) symbolises youth, grit and spirit. It is a matter of great pride for us to get associated with something of this magnitude and spirit. This truly is a mammoth event that will end up adding more to life and it is the same mission for which Unilever stands for."

Romi Malhotra, Managing Director, Dell India, said, "With a large number of our employees in their twenties, an event like the Bangalore International Marathon fits in well with our philosophy of work-life balance and fostering a healthy way of life."

Crossover under the aegis of the Karnataka Athletic Association is organising the event. To make the event truly match the international standards, Crossovers has roped in Bob Braid, an international measurer to inspect the race route and certify it at par with international norms.

The official timer for the event will be Titan and the media partner will be TEN sports.

Darshan M, Head Sales and Marketing, Crossover, said, "The Lipton Bangalore International Marathon will encapsulate all the key elements of any international event of this magnitude - sportsmanship beyond excellence, grit, resilience, striving for perfection - all these elements would contribute to a sporting extravaganza on a large scale and magnitude. The Marathon would see participation from several accomplished international marathon runners".

Speaking on whether the event will be aired live, Darshan said," The event will not be live however the event will be telecast a week later."
