International: $1-billion HP media biz moves to Omnicom from ZenithOptimedia

Omnicom Media Group has bagged the $1 billion global media planning and buying business of tech giant Hewlett-Packard. Publicis Groupe’s ZenithOptimedia is the incumbent agency, which had held this account since 2004. The win follows a review that also included ZenithOptimedia.

HP had called for a pitch initially for three of its divisions – corporate, personal systems group, and image and printing group. This was later expanded to include its technology solutions group as well.

According to industry sources, Rapp, Omnicom’s direct marketing agency, had lead the pitch for HP’s marketing services account for the technology group. The two wins help establish a strong foothold for Omnicom within HP.
