Hindi Hotmail services to be launched soon

Hotmail is going desi and users will soon be able to send e-mail in Hindi. The launch date for the Hindi service had not yet been decided. The Hindi Hotmail service will allow users to type their messages in Hindi, the e-mail address will continue to be in English.

This move by Microsoft is aimed at capturing a larger market share in India, where Hotmail already has approximately 2 million registered users.

Some Indian websites, notably already offer e-mail services in various Indian languages, including Bengali, Gujarati and Tamil.

The Hotmail service is available in nine languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.

In addition to this Microsoft plans to launch its web-based messenger service, called MSN Messenger, in Hindi. MSN Messenger service allows users to send instant messages through the Internet.
