Facebook launches biggest ever ad campaign promising to solve all problems

Facing severe criticism over the data breach scandal involving Cambridge Analytica and revelations that its platform was used to spread Russian propaganda and fake news in the 2016 US elections, Facebook is now embarking on a major offensive to improve its image and address people’s concerns. According to media reports, the social media giant has launched one of its largest-ever advertising campaign to assure people that it will “now do more to keep you safe and protect your privacy”.

Titled “Here Together”, the advertisement reminds people why they signed up for the social network—to make friends. The campaign has been created by the company’s in-house marketing team The Factory. The ad uses everyday images, posts, and people to connect with the users and sell them the idea of Facebook once again.

“We came here for the friends, we got to know the friends of our friends–then our old friends from middle school, our mom, our ex, and our boss joined forces to wish us a happy birthday. Then we discovered our uncle used to play in a band, and realized he was young once, too. And we found others just like us and, just like that, felt a little less alone. But then something happened. We had to deal with spam, clickbait, fake news, and data misuse. That’s going to change. From now on, Facebook will do more to keep you safe and protect your privacy, so we can all get back to what made Facebook great in the first place: friends. Because when this place does what it was built for, then we all get a little closer,” says the ad.

It is being reported that starting April 25, the ad will run throughout the summer. It will also run in cinemas, and on Facebook itself.
