Cisco, Jain Net click country’s biggest e-deal

In what is touted as the biggest e-deal in the country, global networking giant Cisco Systems has entered into a contract with Jain Internet to supply 50,000 network access server ports for the latter’s Rs 120-crore internet project. The project envisages a national rollout plan for its ISP and related services across 85 cities, catering to all 23 telecom centres over the next year. Jain internet’s flagship ISP brand, Freedialin started internet access services in Delhi in July with 5,000 RAS (remote access server) ports supplied by Cisco and has a subscriber base of 76,000. With the additional 50,000 NAS ports — basically telephone lines equipped with networking capabilities and further enabled for communication management of the new age (interoperable network for voice, video, data) — Jain hopes to capture a large part of the subscriber base. Jain Internet has also entered into strategic tieups with other industry leaders like Hewlett Packard (for networking equipment and solutions), Teleglobe (for global Internet connectivity), Shinawatra for satellite unplinking, Microland for network and system integration and ACI for payment solutions.
