Bandwidth disparity leads to poor Net speed: Study

According to a National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) report, huge disparity between the national and the international bandwidth is responsible for the poor Internet speed and its reliability in the country. The survey points out that on most of the national trunk routes, the Internet bandwidth is restricted to 34 mbps compared to total international bandwidth of 400 mbps available through VSNL gateways in the country. The domestic bandwidth goes down to as low as 8 Mbps in most of the routes. The survey was conducted in April and May. The downtime varies from 3-10 per cent against the global benchmark of less than 0.1 per cent. On the international circuits, the downtime varies from 0.9 to 2 per cent , against the global benchmark of less than 0.3 per cent.
