Abhishek Bachchan joins Nicole Kidman, Schumi as Omega brand ambassador

Swiss watchmaker Omega has added another celebrity to its high profile list of brand ambassadors. This time it is Abhishek Bachchan, who joins another Bollywood star in Omega’s list, Sonali Bendre.

Speaking on the occasion, Omega President, Stephen Urquhart, said, “Omega has registered excellent growth in the Indian market, prompting us to bring the best to our patrons, be it our finest collection of watches or an association with trendsetters like Abhishek. We are happy to have him as part of the Omega family. His performances speak of quiet determination and sheer range that he lends to his performances.”

Urquhart further said that India was the 12th largest market for Omega. “In five years, we intend India to be amongst our top five markets. We are targeting the advertisements basically in print that is newspapers, niche magazines like business and lifestyle magazines from the first week of July. We will also put outdoor hoardings this month in all the metros,” he informed.

Omega Brand Manager, P K Narayan said, “We’ve had a growth rate of 40 per cent. Our ad spend is 10-12 per cent of the ad revenue. Abhishek will be used globally in the US and the Middle East. The reason we are not making any TVCs is that TV viewers are not our target audience as our watches are in the higher segment. But we might consider the TVC option in the future.”

Commenting on his association with Omega, Bachchan said, “It’s a great honour for me to be associated with a prestigious brand like Omega, which stands for values that I personally believe in – beauty, excellence, precision and quality. The reason I chose Omega was because I’ve liked their watches for a long time. It’s a responsibility I need to fulfill as a brand ambassador.”

On the contract period, he said, “hopefully it will be long lasting”.

Omega watches are high end watches with prices starting from Rs 50,000 and go up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

Bachchan is also associated with brands like LG, Motorola, and Ford Fiesta, among others.
