6 hours, 5 ads & a star couple: How Oberoi IBC aced Vectus' viral campaign

The agency and the brand share some behind-the-scenes accounts of successfully executing the campaign, shooting with Saif & Kareena, overcoming challenges and more

Star couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor might have endorsed many brands together over the years, right from beverages to travel luggage but the duo's recent TVC for water storage and piping solutions Vectus Industries Ltd has been catching a lot of attention due to its unconventional dialogues. The campaign has been conceptualised by Oberoi IBC. We get the brand and the agency to share some interesting behind-the-scenes bits from the shoot with the celebrity couple, the execution plan that made it tick and more. 

The campaign shows the couple discussing how they haven't worked together in a movie for a while. They then decide against it as 'romance in the house and outside it' (on screen) could be monotonous. That's when Saif comes up of the idea of working in an advertisement together and suggests that they should work for Vectus as it's a very good brand. The TVC has gone live on major TV Channels. 

Ramkrishna Murugan, National Creative Director, Oberoi IBC revealed that the brand managed to shoot five ads in just six hours with the star couple. “Oh what a day that was! Having two super stars on the set and filming five commercials in a day is really a Herculean task,” he remarked. However, Murugan shared that the agency had a perfect plan in place for the execution as they built three different sets on the floor and used the multi setup cameras to save time wherever and however possible. "Above all, the main reason we could even complete five movies in six hours was because of our star couple's amazing cooperation. They loved the scripts and dialogues so much that they were well prepared for the shoot,” he opened up.

Furthermore, Murugan said that the idea was to keep away the artificiality that is usually present in advertising films. Since Saif and Kareena are spouses in real life, they decided to capitalise on their genuine interpersonal chemistry.

 Ashish Baheti, Managing Director, Vectus Industries Ltd reveals that their brief to the agency was fairly simple. He said, “We wanted to see our brand slide into celebrity couple's conversations, which maybe every couple has at some point! That way, we make our way in the minds of the people.” 

Baheti contended that the brand has received a great response to the campaign and is seeing a lot of business inquiries coming in from different parts of the country. “We were fully confident that the 'Saif -Kareena' campaign would yield a good result. To ensure that, we have significantly increased our media budget. Everyone is sitting at home because of the Covid. So we're given good prominence to television and digital platforms,” he revealed.
