Handset major Motorola has called for a a pitch for its media duties. The account size of the pitch is estimated to be Rs 100-150 crore.
Motorola, which is a part of Lenovo's Mobile Business Group, is currently handled by Mindshare India. According to sources, the pitch was called a few weeks ago and is now in its last leg.
âThe final outcome is expected in a monthâs time. Some leading agencies, including Zeinth, are in the race along with incumbent Mindshare,â said a reliable source. exchange4media reached out to Mindshare, Zeinth and Motorola for comments, but all three declined to comment. However, we did not receive any denial either.
Motorola, which recently entered the Indian market through e-commerce, is now expanding its sales through brick-and-mortar retail stores as well. India is among its top three markets, along with the US and Brazil.
As a brand, Motorola has been experimenting with various marketing techniques. It was one of the most visible brands on social media during the recently concluded IPL. Also, the brand recently tied up with Twitter for live streaming of the launch of its much-awaited moto g6 and g6 play. It was the first time in India that a brand had directly partnered with Twitter for live streaming. Because of the live streaming, Motorola fans in India and around the world were able to see the unveiling as it happened.
India is also one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally. Driven by increasing data consumption and falling data prices, a large number of feature phone users are now migrating to smartphones and are looking for affordable devices. Players such as Samsung, Micromax, Xiaomi and Lava have a number of smartphones in their portfolios, especially in the affordable segment.
According to research firm IDC, Lenovo (along with Motorola) had a 9.5 per cent share of the Indian smartphone market in the January-March 2017 quarter.
