RAM Rambling: Bad week for Bangalore, Delhi; Radio City bucks the trend

TAM Media Research’s radio arm RAM data showed that it was not the best week for Bangalore with all top players, except Radio City, showing decline (See Table Below). The top players in Delhi, too, have dropped; but mid-order players like Radio City and Red FM have managed to keep their numbers positive. Kolkata has seen a good week for the top players and Mumbai has a mixed bag with Radio Mirchi and Radio City holding on to good numbers, however, Red FM has recorded a slight decline.

According to RAM data in the 12-plus category in Bangalore, amongst the top four players – Big FM, Radio Mirchi, Fever FM and Radio City – only Radio City has managed to show positive numbers. In the mid-tier stations, only SFM/ Red FM has shown an increase. Lower in the order, Vividh Bharati’s numbers, too, have increased. AIR Rainbow and Radio One are amongst the stations that have dropped.

Showing a similar trend as Bangalore, Delhi, too, has recorded a decrease in listenership shares of its top stations. The top three – Radio Mirchi, Fever and AIR Gold – have a negative slope in numbers. In the next tier, Radio City and Radio One have managed to show growth in numbers in the week gone by. But Red FM has stayed the same as last week, while Big FM has recorded decline. Lower in the order, Meow, now Oye! FM, has recorded has shown some growth but the rest have dropped. Radio City has seen the highest growth 0.7 per cent in the city of. Radio One has grown by 0.4 per cent, while Oye has grown by 0.2 per cent.

Kolkata has a happier story for most of its players. Radio Mirchi, Big FM, Red FM, Friends FM, Vivid Bharati have all shown positive growth. Lower in the order, Oye FM, AIR FM1 Rainbow, Akashvani and Power FM have all dropped.

Mumbai figures managed to stay neutral for the top radio stations. Radio Mirchi has grown by 0.1 per cent, while Red FM has dropped by 0.1 per cent. The other two top players – Radio City and Big FM – have managed to stay their ratings course. In the mid-order, only Radio One has dropped by 0.1 per cent. The lower placed stations have all seen decline.

In all, the week has been bad for Bangalore and Delhi, but players like Radio City have managed to defy the ‘decline’ trend. Kolkata has some good numbers for radio stations. In Mumbai, the top players have managed to hold on to their share, but the lower order has dropped.
