Navratri, Dussehra keep FM radio players busy

Even as Dandiya and Ram Lila take over during the Navratri-Dussehra celebrations, private FM radio stations across the country have planned special activities around the nine-day festivities. FM players have planned several on-ground and on-air initiatives across their stations nationally.

Big FM has introduced ‘9 Big Nights’, which combines the Dandiya rituals with Dussehra celebrations. Fashion tips, dance styles, food, dating game during the festival, on-air Dandiya singing, anecdotes on Dusshera – the FM player has something for everyone. Nine different themes for all the nine days of festivities have been lined up, along with studio visits and on-air interviews with celebrities like Phalguni Pathak and Neeta Lulla. Listeners will also get the opportunity to win passes for Dandiya events in their town by participating in on-air contests. The Rajkot station of Big FM will have the RJs talking about the festival across all programmes and giving away prizes to the winners of various competitions. A mirror is being put up at the entrance of Big FM’s Vadodara and Surat stations wherein a video camera will record people in the act of pampering themselves in front of the mirror. The videos would then be posted on Big927fm.com. Candid camera, anyone?

Radio Mirchi has planned various activities spread across its shows from October 12-21. ‘Hello Mumbai’ will take on the nine Ravanas of the city, highlighting the evils of the city and the possibilities of destroying them by the end of the festival. On ‘Khubsooraat’, a contest will be aired focussing on recipes, coolest clothes to wear and the latest Dandiya trends in town. RJ Sana will be interviewing popular TV stars at the Ishmail Darbar Dandiya event. The station will also have a Dandiya Metre, whereby the station’s RJs will be judging the Dandiya events at various places.

Radio City has planned various initiatives in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. Through an innovative array of interactive contests, listeners in Gujarat can win exclusive nine-day entry to Dandiya events. Contests like ‘Gao Garbha Gao’, ‘Radio City Check Out’, ‘Garba ki Rani’, as well as in-show features have been lined up for the Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat stations, along with a special non-stop Navratri playlist during the festival.

Radio City’s Jaipur station is also lining up on-air contests on various shows, wherein listeners can win entry to the city’s most popular Garba event. Radio City Lucknow is celebrating the Navratri with an on-air activity ‘Nav ka Pher’, while Navratri will be covered across the length and breadth of the city by the Mumbai station. The channel’s RJs will speak to people across venues and also with the artistes to get a ringside view of the celebrations.

Radio One is all set to give its listeners exclusive passes to nine days of Navratri celebrations with singer-duo Preeti and Pinky at a show this year, whereby a gathering of over 15,000 people is expected. A unique contest will also be aired for its Mumbai listeners, wherein 10 lucky winners will be given passes for the Navratri event. They will also be provided with a chauffeur-driven Radio One car for pick up and drop, to and fro from home to the event venue. The car will also drive the winners to other locations of Dandiya celebrations on the same night.

Fever FM has arranged nine acclaimed DJs to perform for the station from 9 pm onwards. The DJs include DJ Akhtar, DJ Reme, DJ Amar, DJ Amyth, DJ Kiran & G, DJ Ryan Beck, DJ Notorious, DJ Akbar Sami and DJ Suketu.

My FM is all out to celebrate the spirit of woman during the festive period. ‘Shakti’, a special show celebrating womanhood, will be on air for all nine days. A daily competition is being held during the nine-day period wherein people can call in and nominate the special women in their lives for the ‘Shakti’ woman, giving their reasons supporting their nominations. Apart from winning a prize, the winner of the ‘Shakti’ title will get her moments of fame by being featured in Dainik Bhaskar. This apart, there will be hourly Q&A contests for women on random topics as well a unique programme whereby the station will play the most famous lines ever written for women. My FM will also play Garba remixes during the nine nights from 9 pm till midnight. A massive nine-day on-ground Garba event will be organised by the station, while the grand finale for the festival will be a women-centric consumer expo to be held on October 20 and 21.
