Morning shows hold high importance as they shoulder the responsibility of keeping people tuned in throughout the day. A morning show needs to have good music, good content and most importantly, a good RJ. RJ Malishka has been carrying this responsibility really well for a very long time.
Sudhir Nair, Senior VP and Head, Grey Digital shared that he likes Malishka because she helps him gear up for a long day ahead.
exchange4media chats with Nair to know more about his favourite RJ and his views on objectivity of content on radio. Excerpts:
Who is your favourite RJ?
My favourite RJ is Malishka from Red FM.
What do you like about Malishka?
Malishka is funny, witty and mischievous in the way she deals with the person she calls/interviews. She is the best to listen to while driving to office in the morning. It freshens you up and you tend to forget the pressure you are under.
When do you tune in to radio the most?
I tune in on the way to office and back. I sometimes also tune in on my way to meetings.
With increasing commercial pressure, do you think RJs are able to keep their content objective?
I am not so convinced about maintaining the content objective. Commercial pressure is inevitable. Broadcasters are not running the channel on charity or for charity. Being a part of the advertising world, I know what it entails. However, it will be good to have some method in the madness. The break shouldn’t be made so annoyingly long that one keeps shifting stations. At times I have been so disappointed that I have shifted to listening to music from my MP3 player or my collection of CDs (yes I still have one). Loyalists tune-in to listen to their favourite RJs and the music they play. Sometimes even the music is incidental.
From the advertising and media industry, which personality do you think could make a marvelous RJ?
I would like to suggest a lesser known personality. My team member Keegan Pereira would make a very good RJ. He is a musician himself, has a wicked sense of humour and is a mad guy. I am sure people wouldn’t mind some bit of it.
