Zee News to make profit by end of March

Zee Telefilms announced that Zee News was likely to turn profitable by the end of the current financial year. It also expects the four Alpha regional language channels to break even at the end of the 2002-03.

According to company sources, the corporate restructuring, pruning of number of subsidiaries from 23 to 12, would result in better tax efficiency. Local uplinking will also contribute in reducing costs and will see an increase advertising revenues.

The channels currently being uplinked directly include Zee News, Alpha Marathi, Alpha Gujarati, Alpha Punjabi, Alpha Bangla, Zee Music and Zed TV.

Zee Telefilms also plans to operate Zee Music and ETC Music in different categories of music. The move is expected to leverage the strength of both the channels.

According to inside sources, Zee has no plans to delist ETC from the bourses. The firm has recently acquired a controlling stake in ETC Music.
