The year-end has brought some good news for Zee Bangla. The channel, which till some time back had occupied the second position, has now raced ahead of ETV Bangla in the Bengali general entertainment channel space to take the top spot. ETV Bangla is now in the second position, followed by Aakaash Bangla.
According to TAM Media Research in the CS 4+ all Bangla market, Zee Bangla touched 432 GRPs in week 49 (December 2-8, 2007). It had reached an all-time high 495 GRPs in week 48 (November 30-December 1, 2007). The launch of ‘Dance Bangla Dance’ during that week gave a rating of 10.5 on an average, which again has been by far the highest for any programme in any channel in this space.
The Zee Bangla team under the guidance of Rajib Chatterjee, Business Head & Senior VP, had been working hard on the channel’s content and marketing, and that has eventually paid off. Some of the non-delivering shows were removed and new ones were introduced. Whether it was the popular ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, an extension of the mother programme with the same title, or ‘Dance Bangla Dance’ or ‘Khela’ or ‘Mirakkel’, the channel has shown steady growth in terms of ratings and share over the past eight months.
Said an ecstatic Chatterjee, “The Bangla satellite TV space has witnessed phenomenal growth in the last one year. It gives me great pride to mention that it is Zee Bangla that has fuelled the growth of the industry. Bengal has become a priority market very steadily and the good news is that the advertising pie is getting sizeably bigger and bigger.”
