Zarina Mehta bids adieu to Disney – UTV

Almost a year after Walt Disney’s takeover of UTV Software Communications, Zarina Mehta, Co-Founder of UTV Software, who was working at Walt Disney India’s as Chief Creative Officer of UTV Group of Channels that included Bindass and UTV Stars amongst others, is moving on from the company.

In an internal mail to the company employees, Mehta has said, “After 27 years, I have decided that I need to move on from my beloved UTV. It has given me such joy and fulfillment to create a vibrant, passionate, cutting-edge company that believes passionately in creativity at its core -- in building something out of nothing, in creating innovative, cutting-edge, break-out content. And how wonderfully that matches Disney’s core belief as well.”

It is understood that Mehta has decided to move full time into the foundation SHARE (Society to Heal, Aid, Restore And Educate) as Managing Trustee. SHARE is 10 years old and has a team of around 60 people.

Mehta has said in the mail: “It has been 27 years of doing the same thing. And much as I have loved it passionately, I have felt the need to think about different challenges, to apply my mind and energy and passion to other problems.”

Prior to this, she was the COO of UTV’s kids’ channel Hungama, where her innovative initiatives drove the brand to beat the decade-long leadership of international giants to become the number one kids channel in a record 18 months of launch. She led the creation and launch of TV brands such as UTV Bindass, UTV Stars and UTV Action.

Mehta was adjudged IMPACT’s second most influential woman in Indian marketing, media and advertising industry earlier this year.
